Korean bbq gathering@ Jason and Wendy’s

Four days to go before we jet off to Hong Kong! With work being so busy and all, it’s been difficult getting into the holiday mood, but we started packing a bit today so I’m starting to get excited.

It’s official, my favourite cafe in Vic Park (and possibly Perth) is Harvest Espresso. This is my err 5th or 6th return to Harvest? I guess I’m considered a regular now.

We did think about trying somewhere new or different for our Sunday brunch. But why go anywhere else when you’re guaranteed a great coffee and even better brunch at Harvest?

Sometimes you just need a sandwich. Luckily Harvest makes really yummy sandwiches.  Their chicken sandwich is my favourite sandwich in town. I don’t know how they do it, but the chicken is moist and juicy, soft zucchini slices and sweet pumpkin with generous lashings of aioli on crisp yet soft bread, match made in heaven.

Saturday night at Jason and Wendy’s. We finally finished off this bottle of chinese rice wine, it’s been hanging around for a couple of years. I think we’re not great drinkers nowadays, probably growing old (T___T), my preferred drink nowadays is Coke Zero. However the girls have promised me a wild Hen’s night so I’m holding you to your words ok girls ? ( we will probably end up going for an indulgent high tea, which I actually do like too)

Thanks for being great hosts Jason and Wendy! In a way this was probably a farewell for Gerry too, I wonder what we’ll be like when he returns from China. Probably the same and trying to finish off our second bottle of chinese rice wine haha.

Celebrating Richard’s birthday in advance. The lucky kid is almost always overseas during his birthday, this year we will be in Macau, his birthday cake will have to be a Portuguese egg tart *slurp*

Japanese weekend

Aargh, I can’t believe the weekend is over! Then again, it’s one more weekend to go before we’re jetting off to Hongkong! I can’t wait… egg tarts.. milk teas…

Tuesday $15 steak nights at Bentley hotel. This time we went with Karen and Bryan, lovely people with lots of good HK tips. We will be visiting Gerry in his hometown too, so exciting haha.

Simple lunchbox of stir fried satay chicken with snow pea sprouts and button mushrooms.

Sunday night dinner was Western style Japanese themed, teriyaki hambagu with spaghetti bolognese. Jo wasn’t feeling fantastic though and only managed one hambagu (*gasp*). She did bring some home though so hopefully it will still be yummy for her dinner tomorrow.

Chirashi sushi at daitaoha’s. The best part about making your own chirashi sushi bowl? You can be very very generous with your ingredients and salmon sashimi slices are thickly cut haha.

Mother’s Day

Apologies for being M.I.A. for so long. Sometimes I forget that I have a blog (T___T). But I still love blogging very much, so not giving up anytime soon :).

This was a couple of weekends back when we stopped by Cranked in Leederville for some lunch. The mocha wasn’t fantastic.

But the the South American spiced chicken and tomato jam  quesadilla with a side of guacamole was yummy with a nice hint of chilli.

A friend mentioned that he remembers my Loh Bak fondly last night (^___^). I didn’t tell him that my loh bak tastes slightly different each time because I never use the same amount of ingredients. For this lunch bento, I used galanghal instead of ginger as taught by my ah ma and I thought it was much tastier.

Sometimes you just need a honey chicken with fried rice. This one was from Wang’s Asian Cuisine. It’s also Mother’s Day today. If my ah ma and Jan were in Perth, I reckon we would be having Japanese for dinner.  So here’s wishing all the mothers in my family, a very happy and well deserved special Mother’s Day, I hope all the kids are specially good today 🙂
