Jurien Bay Labour Day camping: Day 1

It was lovely weather for a long car ride.

Reminded me of Windows screensaver  ūüôā

After a few hours, we reached Jurien Bay! The beach is really very pretty.

My chicken snitzel burger at a casual lunch bar was surprisingly tasty.

Tristan can never say no to ice cream.  It was a frosty boy soft serve too, a childhood love.

I loved the white sand and aqua ocean. Will be visiting tomorrow!

I already know HC will be spending many happy hours fishing off this jetty.

Happy Tristan frolicking in the water. He is a daredevil and literally ran into the sea!

The tents are up! We’re not too impressed with the facilities of this campsite. But I still love our tents, our portable homes are very comfy.

Our camping traditional first dinner is always steak.  This time with sweet potato mash.

I can’t believe I’m blogging from my tent while trying to spot stars in the sky.  It’s pretty cool.

Labour Day long weekend

It’s the start of an extra long long weekend for us Y (^____^) Y And we’re going camping again!

It’s been long enough since we last went camping that I’m quite excited about it. Funnily enough, our prep and packing time has reduced significantly since the first time we went camping. I don’t think third time camping makes us seasoned pros, but we are definitely getting more relaxed. Or maybe it’s because we’re going with Jo and she’s super organised and always over packs.

I also booked a short holiday in April, going to meet my parents in Singapore, haha, very happy. I think we’re going to have to schedule in a Japanese buffet session. I shall start researching. I was going to go with R to Adelaide but the ticket prices were so exorbitantly high that I had to give up on the idea. So there is somewhere more isolated than Perth!

Ok, will try to post some ‘live’ camping posts over the next few days. Happy Labour Day long weekend!

Camping@Mandurah Caravan &Tourist Park

A very belated post of our second camping trip also around the Mandurah area but this time at a different camping site, the Mandurah Caravan & Tourist Park (522 Pinjarra Road, Mandurah). 20141206_064233

This time we only went for a weekend so I took the train up to meet the guys at the site where they had everything already set up hehe. It was a nice spot and very popular with families (swimming pool, playground and good facilities), not as idyllic and peaceful as our last spot but better in the sense that we got a lot more shade and were nearer to the amenities. 20141206_072249 Lots of birds around our area! The duck family came visiting in the morning. They were not shy at all. 20141206_072420 The Australian ringnecks were also very brazen and hopped up to our table for some breakfast. I had to save Tristan’s breakfast from his fast beak.

The boys go crabbing which is what Mandurah is famous for.

Crabs in the water. But sadly, we didn’t manage to catch any full sized ones.

This time we explored more of the Mandurah town centre. Lovely perfect camping weather. It was Perth at its best.

One of my favourite photos this year. Tristan and his yee zhang R. He looks a bit apprehensive and I think he was because Yee Zhang hardly ever carries babies so this was a rare shot.

20141206_114530 Tristan turned 2 earlier this week! He is turning out to be a happy, cheeky little boy who likes nothing better¬†than to dance and sing. 20141206_151402 I still treasure all my weekend coffees and this one was a nice one from Decadent C’s, a lovely chocolate and cake laden cafe that we found by accident (25 Husband Road Mandurah). It’s very family friendly with nice grassy lawns and a playground for the kids. 20141206_151612 The cakes¬†were delicious¬†too! Definitely returning if we end up camping around the area again.

20141207_123709 Sunday lunch at Catch 22 (U1/ 4 Zephyr Mews, Mandurah) which is located by the waterside. It felt like the perfect weather and location for a pork belly and pineapple pizza, this one was ok.20141207_123754 Jo and Ming Sian both ordered the lamb which came with beetroot and fetta. While the food at Catch 22 wasn’t outstanding, it made up with being located on a scenic spot which was perfect to end our sunny camping trip.

The boys having a go at the inflatable pillow at our campsite haha.

Our next camping trip will be at Swan Valley (not sure how it’s possible that we are camping even closer to home this time) and I’m already looking forward to our wine tasting and cheese galore hehe. I think there will lots more camping in 2015!

I’m watching Michael Bubl√©’s Christmas concert on tv now, such a cliche but I do like Christmas songs and also Bubl√© (=^____^=). This year’s lead up to Christmas seems particularly joyful and fun. Maybe it’s because I’m just really hanging out for a holiday after such a tough and challenging year. Or maybe it’s because everything seems to be finally drawing to an end and I feel like I’ve actually managed to achieve a couple of goals this year! That’s not bad for a procrastinator. But deep down inside, I know the reason why I’m really feeling the¬†festive season this year is because more of my family is here in Perth, and especially, the kids are here.¬† I love being able to spoil them with Christmas gifts, I relish being the favourite aunty who can buy them¬†forbidden sweet treats, and most of all, I love being able to watch them grow up and being part of their lives.¬† Since they’ve been around, my life feels so much fuller and meaningful, yes, I love being daitaoha yee yee, it’s the best!

Camping @ Miami Holiday Park, Falcon WA

Noticed that I started a new category called Daitaoha Camping? It’s because we actually had a good first time camping experience so I think we will probably go camping again in the future! Haha, positive thinking.
20141107_111254This was our camp site at Miami Holiday Park in Falcon/Mandurah. The caravan park was in a very convenient location (so near to shops and beach etc.), was a powered site with full facilities so technically it wasn’t camping in the real sense but glamping (glamorous camping haha). Still, it was a good place to ease our way into real camping.

Tristan dancing away while his papa and uncle are hard at work putting at the tents. He loved camping from the get go and had a great time tripping over tent lines and running around in the grass.

_DSC3891 (Medium)The tents are up! Not bad for a first try.

20141107_190245Our first camping meal. It was a simple steak with salad and asparagus. Next time we’re investing in an electric cooker because it took ages for us to heat up the pan on the gas stove because it was so windy!

_DSC3900 (Medium)Our idyllic caravan park in the morning. I’ll be honest, our first night was rough because we were not prepared for how cold it would get in the wee hours of the morning, plus we obviously didn’t get our tent quite right because it was flapping so much in the wind that it kept us up. I reckon we probably slept two hours and I was very tired on the second day. The good news is, we re pegged the tents on the second day, Jan came with extra blankets and it was so much better.

_DSC3895 (Medium)Revisiting Mandurah which is still lovely.

_DSC3897 (Medium)Going to the beach. This is Falcon Bay. For some reason I had fanciful ideas of spending the day by the beach, reading a book and sipping a pina colada (ok, more like a Coke), occasionally dipping in the ocean. Alas, this trip reminded me that I’m not a beach person, the ocean was too cold and it was too hot by the beach to stay all day.

_DSC3904 (Medium)Witnessing a funny moment between Tristan and Muffin.

_DSC3905 (Medium)In my imagination, they were having a conversation. It was kinda sweet.

_DSC3906 (Medium)Tristan had a great time admiring all the dogs that went by the caravan park. Everytime he saw one he would point at the dogs in excitement and say ‘ou ou!’

_DSC3907 (Medium)Little ones are cute during camping. Except at night when they cry because of the funny sounds in the tent.

_DSC3909 (Medium)The best part of camping is spending quality time with your friends and family.

_DSC3912 (Medium)Family photo for Wendy, Jason and Muffin. With another little one coming along too hehe.

First camping trip over and out! We’re already planning for the second one :). I’m told the best part about camping is sitting in the chair with a glass of wine and looking up at the stars. That is going to be my goal for the second trip!
