When I’m feeling love

I try to read books to the girls before bedtime everyday. Tonight the girls chose the feeling books, we did the love book and the scared book.

At the end of each book there are questions about each feeling which I ask the girls and they take turns answering.

‘When do you feel love?’ I asked Saitaomei

‘Everyday after school, when Gung Gung picks me up, and I hug Gung Gung , I feel love’ she answered. โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™

My favourite Sundays

Both girls are sick, in fact the whole household is now down with cough and flu, but we’re all in pretty good spirits.

We inherited this whiteboard from LG and have been having lots of fun with it. The girls love to spell, do maths and draw on it, thank goodness the kids like to learn so it’s a pleasure teaching them.

Prawn omelette, a recipe handed down by my parents’ old friend Aunty Jenny. I remember going to her house to learn how to cook this dish almost a decade ago! How time flies and I never actually cooked it till now, and we had to listen to voice recording on WhatsApp haha.

Saitaoha calls bak kut teh the brown soup and it’s a favourite of hers especially eaten with yew char kueh. Perfect for a weekend dinner especially when it’s cold out and you’re under the weather. My Sunday ritual usually starts with cooking breakfast for the family such as French toast, ham and eggs or waffles. Then we get ready to go out, mostly grocery shopping, or we might head to the playground if the weather is nice. When we get home we have a quick lunch, the kids and R have a nap in the afternoon, I spend my quiet time cooking in the kitchen, usually prepping R’s lunch boxes for the week, something for dinner which I can share with my parents, sometimes I have time for a cake or dessert.

We will walk over to my parents when the kids wake up to deliver dinner and hang out with my parents for a while. My kids really adore their grandparents, in fact when I told Saitaomei that we would have to avoid visiting them since we are sick she said solemnly ‘but Gung Gung will miss me’.

After dinner, I usually fold laundry, clean the kitchen and watch tv with the kids. Tonight we played hangman and did some maths. A quiet Sunday but my favourite kind of Sunday nevertheless. Let’s hope we all get well soon.

Mother’s Day

I had a lovely Mother’s Day!

It started with mummy duties! Cooking the kids a full breakfast, one of our usual Sunday weekend routines. I usually like cooking them something more substantial for breakfast during the weekends at home.

On Saturday my sister and I went to buy my Mother’s Day present for ah ma, a Nespresso machine, she is a coffee lover like I am. I hope this coffee machine serves her well, I know I will enjoy buying different pods and trying them out at her house haha.

Kids managed to have some playground time this weekend. If the weather is nice, I like bringing them out for some playground time.

I love all my Mother’s Day presents from the kids, I love all these handmade items, their school is so wonderful at celebrating parents and encouraging the kids to make these beautiful arts and craft.

For Saitaoha’s weekly news, we have been making arts and craft too, last week it was paper craft so we made a crane, this week we used egg cartons to make flowers, a butterfly and a bee. It’s actually really nice for us parents to have an activity that we do together with the kids and the girls enjoyed painting this afternoon.

They also helped me to make rose and lychee Swiss rolls, ah ma likes Swiss rolls a lot so I wanted to make her one for Mother’s Day. Must be Mother’s Day luck because I usually have some kind of baking fail when I bake my bulk but all four of my Swiss rolls turned out great.

Enough to share with my family, my neighbour, Saitaoha’s school friends and even R’s colleagues.

A family dinner of sashimi (a favourite of all the mummies in my family) and okonomiyaki, trying out my mum’s new coffee machine and dessert of cake, it was a very pleasant evening indeed.

A day filled with quality time with my family, baking, cooking, feasting, even some time for arts and craft with the girls and some bedtime reading. I couldn’t ask for a better Mother’s Day.

My little sunshines. Love both of you to pieces.
