Buffet fiends

A few months ago….

Me to the girls: what is your favourite hotel?

Saitaoha: the one in Kuching that we stayed with Gung Gung and Mah Mah?

Saitaomei: me too!

Me: huh? Why? It’s not a particularly fancy hotel?

Girls: because of the buffet !!!

This morning….

Me to R: Hey K says that we should meet for lunch on Sunday when we’re in KL. 12pm.

R: why would we need to have lunch? We will be too full from our buffet breakfast.

Me: 😝

Tonight I asked the girls to pack the snacks that they want to bring on the plane.

Saitaoha started packing these chocolate breakfast bars that the kids have taken a liking to.

Saitaoha to Saitaomei: you had better pack some of these, you can eat some of these for breakfast.

Saitaomei: oh I don’t need to pack many or else I will be too full for the breakfast buffet.

Me to R: 😂😂😂😂 did you hear that?! How can they be just like you !!

Glasses

Parenting fail. My girls need glasses. I will miss looking into their beautiful eyes. The first thing I noticed about Saitaoha when she was born were her big eyes, I was grateful that she didn’t inherit my tiny eyes and awed at how incredibly beautiful she was.

My greatest fear is that Saitaoha, my sensitive child will grow up with no confidence in herself and filled with self loathing like her mum. The other day she asked me

👧🏻: will you keep me forever ?

👩🏻: what do you mean keep you?

👧🏻: will you keep me in the house and not throw me out?

👩🏻: of course ! I would never throw you out and will want to keep you forever. But Saitaoha when you grow up and get married, you might not want to stay with mummy and papa anymore.

👧🏻: I will still want to stay with you !

I wondered whether it was something I’d done or said to make her feel that I wouldn’t want to ‘keep’ her. This is the same child who was really sad that she needed glasses because she was afraid her friends would laugh at her. Perhaps my lack of self esteem has rubbed off my child. Yet it doesn’t affect Saitaomei who is confident and was delighted she was getting glasses because she could match with her favourite Gung Gung 😅.

I really need to work harder on building up her confidence … and mine.

WA Day long weekend

The long weekend is finally here ! For some reason the work week felt extremely long and I was thrilled when I logged off my computer on Friday to bring the kids to the library. Leaving my work phone at home and heading out was the best feeling.

Saitaomei at the library. I love going to libraries and reading books in little books, but why aren’t my kids like me? I blame it on too much tech.

An impromptu Korean bbq dinner at our friend’s. Everything was remarkably delicious and it was another fun night. The kids didn’t want the night to end and we didn’t too!

Korean ‘dessert’ of fried rice was yummy but we were seriously stuffed by then. I would love to travel to Korean with our friends, it would be so much fun exploring Korea with locals. Maybe in a couple of years, we have too many places to go and too little time.

Let’s hope the rest of the long weekend is filled with fun and lots of activity.
