Day 5 & 6 London: Cafe in the Manor

We’ve been having lazy London days of shopping and eating. Day 5 started with brunch at Cafe in the Manor down the street. I’ve been wanting to visit this quaint and traditional English cafe since spotting it during our neighbourhood walks.
day 4 01
The cafe itself is clean and cosy with regulars who bring in their own coffee cups when they’re done with it. It’s run by two lovely ladies who admired Kaka and showed us her photo of her grandson. Their menu ranges from traditional British cafe fare of egg and chips to toasted paninis.
day 4 02

I had the Toad in the Hole, something that I’ve always read about in English books. Toad in the hole is a classic English dish of sausages baked in  batter and served onion gravy. Jan said this one probably wasn’t very authentic as the sausages are usually baked in the Yorkshire pudding batter and not placed on top of it. It was massive and I couldn’t finish it. I’m not sure I would order it again as I’m not  a sausage fan but I do like Yorkshire puddings.

day 4 03

Jo’s  breakfast of bacon, egg, sausage and beans.

day 4 04

Jan had a ham, cheese and pineapple toasted panini with chips (lots of things are served with chips here), she said it was nice.

day 4 05

Kueh chap for dinner! I am getting the hang of cleaning out pig intestines, the family seemed to like this one so I might be cooking this again next week.

day 4 06

Ending the night with some Peppa Pig watching.  Peppa Pig is a hugely popular English kids cartoon, each episode only lasts around 5 minutes and they’re really cute and funny.

day 4 07

Day 6 shopping in Croydon again. I liked the look of this Old Fox and Hounds pub, it’s like something that jumped right out of my James Herriott books. Hopefully we’ll have a pub lunch one of these days.

sandwiches

Bought Pret A Manger sandwiches and wraps for lunch. Pret a Manger means ready to eat in French and is a popular British sandwich retail chain. My sister had these sandwiches for her work lunches almost everyday. I loved all the ingredients, crayfish, avocado, tomatoes..

day 4 09

Jo’s no bread sandwich which was really a crayfish and avocado salad with lemony French dressing. I wouldn’t mind having this for lunch in Perth!

day 4 08

Food shopping at Marks and Spencers. We still haven’t had these yet but they’re in the fridge for dessert tonight haha.

day 4 10

Doesn’t this scene look very familiar? We’be been hitting all the baby stores in town. Jo has been shopping up a storm.

day 4 11

Say hello to Peppa Pig! Andy and Jan were contemplating buying this for Kaka but decided against it in the end.

day 4 13

But we bought a Peppa Pig laptop instead! Nowadays baby toys are all high tech stuff, this one is very cute with Peppa Pig’s voice piping out and lots of music. Baby seems to prefer staring at Peppa’s face instead of actually opening it up to play with the games, but maybe that’s when she’s older.

day 4 13

Kaka’s picture of the day: This is her morning cheery smile. She’s always very happy and excited when she wakes up in the morning. All ready  for a day of excitement and adventures with her yee yees I say.
